WORD OF THE YEAR: CREATE

Resolutions come and go (if you are like most people, your New Year’s resolution is probably long gone). Many people instead recommend coming up with a word of the year. This one word can be motivation to do something you want and can help keep your intentions on track in a way that resolutions don’t.

At the Bobby Hotel, we wanted a word that would empower us to have another year of meeting dynamic songwriters and musicians, eating delicious food, sipping craft cocktails and coming up with out-of-this-world activities from our rooftop. We also wanted a word that reflected the dynamic Nashville environment that surrounds us.

It seemed obvious that “create” should be that word, as it will empower us to keep trying new things and keep bringing creative thinkers to our spaces. And if you want to join us, it is easy to do in Nashville. Even if you don’t think of yourself as a creative person, these five experiences will help you stretch your creative muscles while in town.

NashVox: Choose from one of 20,000 options and make a recording of yourself (solo or with friends) singing your favorite song in a real Nashville recording studio.

Lip Lab: The Fifth + Broad complex just a few blocks from the Bobby is home to a lot of wonders, including this boutique where you mix a signature lipstick. You mix the color, the level of shine, the fragrance and even name it. And, yes, you can engrave that creative name on the tube.

American Paint: Few things are as iconic in Nashville as a hat. Head to L&L Market on the west side of the city to make your own custom hat, from color to bands to feathers.

Hatch Show Print: The letterpress look is as associated with Music City as anything else. Did a band really play in Nashville if a Hatch Show Print poster didn’t announce the show? Take a tour of the 145-year-old business and print your own poster to take home.

Paddywax Candlebar: Take a candle-pouring workshop where you’ll select a signature scent and a vessel and make a candle to take home. Every time you light it you’ll think of Nashville (and your year of creativity).
