A scientific definition of the word chaos is “A sensitive dependence on initial conditions.” Sequences and patterns are found in pretty much every facet of life, no matter how little sense they make and how minute and unpredictable the patterns are. My focus for my paintings and drawings vacillates between patterns found in the chaotic worlds of particles and waves. Diffraction is one of my favorites, the merging of waves and the resulting new patterns that are born from this alchemy of physical movement.
In addition to working as an artist, I received my gemology degree and work in the world of jewelry and gemstones. The patterns within the microscopic landscape of gems as well as the sequences of their atomic structures are another source of inspiration for my paintings and drawings, namely this piece, Gold and Smoke.
