FESTIVAL PASSES

Purchase passes to the annual AmericanaFest music festival and conference.

For a quarter of a century, AmericanaFest has been uniting musicians, songwriters, and labels in Music City for one of the city’s best weeks of music. And this year, the festival’s 25th anniversary, promises to be even more of the same. It’s a Nashville-centric week that celebrates the genre that is a little bit roots music, a little bit bluegrass, a little bit country and a whole lot of fun.

In addition to great lineups and the opportunity to see lots of different bands without shuttling all over town, AmericanaFest is a bargain, in a city that can seem short on bargains. It’s just $125 for a pass that gets you into the nightly showcases and some special events (if you are feeling spendy, you can upgrade to other levels for $399-$1,349 for more access and more perks).

In addition to shows that are part of the nightly showcases, there are some events for which you can nab a ticket just like any traditional concert. The Secret Sisters and Maggie Rose are playing the Schermerhorn Symphony Center on Sept. 9 to kick off the five days of music. That same night, Dwight Yoakam headlines his Cosmic Roundup & Rodeo tour, joined by Shooter Jennings & The Werewolves of Los Angeles and Ben Haggard down the street at Ascend Amphitheater.

As for the nightly showcases, which run through Sept. 13 this year, highlights include The Honky Tonkin’ In Queens late-night jam featuring Elle King, Summer Dean, and Kristina Murray, Joy Oladokun and Dawes at Jack White’s Third Man Records + The Blue Room and Relix Night at Brooklyn Bowl with Joshua Ray Walker, Kashus Culpepper and Kaitlin Butts. A downloadable app helps you figure out where to be when.

One of the coolest things about AmericanaFest is that it is an industry conference presented by the Americana Music Association by day, and music by night. Folks learn about how best to run their music businesses during the day, and it contributes to a collegial vibe at night. More than 20,000 people are expected to attend AmericanaFest, but thanks to the setup, with many events taking place at different venues around town, it never feels overly crowded.
