Will Ezell and Alex Hein met online when Ezell was a student at the University of Mississippi and Hein was at the University of Southern California. They two became friends, bonded over music, and started collaborating remotely.

Eventually Ezell moved to Los Angeles so they could pursue Sunday Scaries, their EDM dance band, together in-person. Once in L.A. they both worked as interns at a record label (in marketing and influencer management), and eventually Sunday Scaries got signed to the label. It wasn’t that long until they released “Chill Like That,” their viral single that has been described as a cross between club anthem and pop song. Their audience and influence grew, as did the type of gigs they booked. One wedding gig was particularly poignant for them. They entertained the audience at the wedding of the record label CEO who took a chance on them. “We took it full circle,” Ezell says.
Both members of the duo are self-described hard partiers and named their act after the feeling they sometimes have on Sundays after a late night out. But one particular Sunday shouldn’t be scary in the least. That’s Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023, when the Sunday Scaries take the stage at Bobby Nashville to usher in the new year, complete with epic balloon drop, confetti and plenty of cocktails.
“This is our first real show in Nashville,” says Ezell, who grew up in Music City. It is also the first time that the duo has been in the position to choose the song that will ring in the new year for hundreds of people. We are going to spend a lot of time on remixes, playing heavy-hitters people can sing along to,” Hein says. “We are going to make it special.”
Both Heim and Ezell are fans of New Year’s Eve and new beginnings in general. “It is always nice to have a fun celebration and look back on the growth of the year. And this year has been insane for the band,” Hein says, noting they signed a record deal, headed a tour and garnered more than 50 million streams. “We are going to send it off with a bang.”
